Dogs are man’s best friend, and it is every owner’s duty to take care of their pet. But what should you do when the season changes? Monsoon season is hard on both humans and dogs alike. The humidity, the rain, the storms, the mud—all these things can be stressful for your dog. Here are some monsoon care tips for dogs that you can help them through this difficult time.
Make sure they get enough water
Water is the key to keeping your dog healthy, hydrated, and happy. The last thing you want is for them to have to go potty when the weather changes, but not have anything to drink.
Dogs can get dehydrated very quickly. Try to plan outings early in the day, before the heat of the day. Give them water at every stop so that they can keep drinking. If they get to the point where you have to take them home because they’re panting, they’ve had too much water.
Keep them dry When it rains, your dog is bound to get soaked. They don’t want to get wet, of course, but their paw pads can get damaged from water seeping in and getting stuck under their pads. Put towels on the floors where you know your dog will be, and keep them clean.
Monitor their diet
• First things first, make sure your dog is eating a balanced diet. Their diet should include ample amounts of fresh grass.
• This is especially important during the summer, when you notice your dog’s coat or fur getting a little thick.
• Try to reduce any excess weight from their body. This is particularly important for adult dogs.
• During the rainy season, it is very important that your dog is hydrated. Be mindful of the temperature of their water bowl. Use bowls that do not heat up easily and always keep their bowl a few inches below body temperature.
Keep them safe from the rain and storms
For some dogs, a simple shake can send a bolt of energy right into the heart of an opponent. Other breeds can be too rambunctious to walk or get into a car without some excitement. This can also happen when they’re left alone for long hours. Their paws get wet, their breath gets ragged, and they get too aggressive with each other.
Even though they can swim if they’re really relaxed, it might be too much stress for them to handle. So, keep them out of the rain, or at least take them to a dog park. During the rainy season, people often forget to clean their dogs’ paws, which leads to nasty infections. Wash them regularly with a mild soap solution and apply a good moisturizer, preferably coconut oil, to their feet. Also, don’t let them drink stagnant water like puddles or open water tanks.
Monitor their energy levels
It is essential to keep your dog hydrated and well fed during the monsoon. Exercise is important, but make sure your dog is feeling happy and well-fed, so they don’t have too much energy. Water – dogs need to stay hydrated during the season. Make sure they have enough fresh water every day, and make sure you provide them with fresh kibble. Regular brushing – Rub their coat frequently, so the matting does not accumulate.
